Advanced Programs
Children from our In-School Program who demonstrate exceptional talent and drive are given the opportunity to extend their experience in the arts through our Advanced Programs. These programs offer intensive study and performance opportunities during the summer, after school, and on Saturdays throughout the school year at no cost to participating students. NDI's Advanced Programs expose children to the arts at the highest level. They demand extraordinary commitment and exemplary performance from every dancer. Children may participate in the Advanced Programs for up to seven years, until age 15. After graduation from NDI, most join our Alumni Association.
The Advanced Programs include the S.W.A.T. Team, the NDI Celebration Team, and the Irene Diamond Summer Institute. The professionally produced Event of the Year, presented to a public audience of thousands at the end of the school year, is the culminating performance for all Advanced Program dancers.
Collaborations with professional artists are an integral part of the Advanced Programs. Guest choreographers, musicians, and performers enrich the instruction provided by NDI's teaching faculty. Noteworthy artists who have lent their time and expertise to NDI in recent years include Martin Charnin, Christopher d'Amboise, Donlin Foreman, April Gornik, Red Grooms, John Kander, Will Power and David Parsons.
