Celebration Team
Children who demonstrate an extraordinary commitment throughout their S.W.A.T. Team scholarship training are invited to join the Celebration Team, our performance troupe for dancers up to age 15. Celebration Team dancers attend demanding weekly classes and choreography workshops taught by NDI's faculty of master teachers, our founder, and visiting artists. Rehearsals incorporate formal instruction in several techniques, including Horton-based modern dance, tap, jazz, ballet, and African dance.
NDI's overall goal is to inspire children to excellence and prepare them for successful careers in all fields. We recognize, however, that there are some students for whom dance will become a vocation. For students who aspire to careers in the arts, we offer a strong foundation of instruction in dance technique and an established mentoring program to help them as they apply to New York City's specialized middle and high schools for the arts.
In addition to the Event of the Year, Celebration Team dancers perform year-round in a variety of venues, which have included Lincoln Center, Symphony Space, City Center, the Kennedy Center and the White House.
