Where creativity meets community, you get Dance Unplugged: an evening of student and professional performance, classroom demos, and conversations with the Founding Artistic Director of EMERGE125 and the National Dance Institute’s Helen Stambler Neuberger Artist-in-Residence for 2023-2024, Tiffany Rea-Fisher. As part of the artist residency program with National Dance Institute, Rea-Fisher has been training NDI children and Teaching Artists throughout the year, setting choreography on NDI Advanced Teams dancers, leading NDI Collaborative workshops and connecting with NDI families, audiences and staff through performance and community events. This culminating evening of the residency will include dance by members of EMERGE125 presenting repertory featured on the company’s recent history-making month-long tour across Alaska; a performance of National Dance Institute’s Wisdom of the Forest; featuring the Children of National Dance Institute choreographed by Rea-Fisher; and a rousing “Get Up and Move” interactive classroom demo led by Tiffany and the company. Much more than a staid exercise, this demo will give participants insight into how a world-class choreographer thinks on their feet and to have the opportunity to comment on how the work makes them feel in real time.
