Position: Wardrobe Supervisor
Status: Part Time / Hourly
Reports to: Production Director
Date: October 2024
Salary Range: $50/hour (approximately 200 hours annually)
Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the Production Director, the Wardrobe Supervisor is responsible for support for the NDI dancers for in-house production at the Jacques d’Amboise Center for Learning and the Arts (JdA Center), as well as outside venues and ancillary spaces. This position is responsible for laundering, inventory, maintenance, and storage of all costumes for the organization, assisting in construction of costumes, and performer fittings in collaboration with the Costume Designer for each event, and overseeing the maintenance or sewing machines, and other equipment related to the execution of these responsibilities. Wardrobe Supervisor coordinates with Rehearsal Stage Manager/Production Assistant and Company Manager as relates to fittings and performance/event Schedule.
Responsibilities:
- Provide wardrobe run-crew support for all performances in which NDI dancers and performers appear, including but not limited to the preparation, laundering, and storage of costumes.
- In collaboration with Costume Designer, create and maintain timeline for the design, construction of any new costumes for NDI events and performances.
- In Collaboration with Costume Designer, Rehearsal Stage Manager and Company Manager, create, maintain and execute schedule of costume fittings for all performers for each event/performance requiring new costumes.
- In collaboration with Production Director and Costume Designer, engage and oversee over hire and / or volunteer stitchers, drapers, or other wardrobe professionals engaged to construct costumes.
- Work within set budgets and track expenses for creation and maintenance of all costumes, including materials, equipment, and labor.
- Be responsible for overseeing maintenance of equipment, and advise on any equipment
- acquisition related to wardrobe and costumes.
- Maintain files related to costume inventory, care and maintenance of costumes.
- Track and maintain all perishable supplies
- Contribute to building and maintaining list of qualified over hire wardrobe professionals
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required, with 5+ years professional experience in similar positions, or the equivalent in relevant work experience including costume design, construction, and wardrobe run crew. Work in educational settings is a plus.
- Thorough understanding of all aspects involved in costume design and construction.
- Excellent communication skills—written, oral and visual.
- Strong organizational skills: calendar management, budget management, project management.
- Ability to plan and execute design plans
- Ability to work productively under time pressures and meet deadlines.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
- Vendor contacts, and connections to a pool of wardrobe professionals
- Valid driver’s license a plus
Physical requirements:
- Ability to manoeuvre up to 25 pounds
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time including manoeuvring up and down ladders and stairs
Work Hours:
This position is hybrid. Advance work may be done remotely with some required work days on site at the JdA Center and outside venues. Schedule will be set by Production Director. November, April, May, and June are very heavily scheduled with some weekend and evening performances.

As an hourly employee you will accrue hours toward benefits in accordance with New York State law as follows: For every 30 hours worked = 1 hour of sick leave
Beginning in January 2025
- Upon 1 year of employment when employees reach 500 hours of employment they are eligible for health care benefits
- Upon 2 consecutive years of employment in which employees reach o 500 hours each year they are eligible to contribute to NDI’s retirement plan o 1000 hours each year they are eligible for employer contributions to retirement plan
